Students' objectives were to capture the objects' shape, value and space. VA Standard 2-11: Explains how space surrounds two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional forms.

Students posed for 15 minutes, while their classmates captured their likeness. VA Standard 3-4: Creates artworks using direct observation.

11th and 12th grade students

Standard 8:1 - Selects subject matter, including symbols and ideas, to communicate a message in an original artwork. The objective - to increase problem solving and critical thinking skills. Each student chose a letter to transform into various themes starting with said letter.

I begin each class with a ten-minute brainteaser, providing students with a question that will provoke mental imagery. Here four different students' solutions, for: "Imagine you were turning into a monster; Draw what you would look like."


Students used I AM Poems to complete various levels of value to produce a micrographic image.

AP Students chose a random object from a bag; Drew the object from different angles and positions in preparation for a painting.
